Chavit Singson Senatorial Candidate 2025

Cebu City, November 25, 2024 – Business magnate and former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis "Chavit" Singson presented his vision for the Filipino people during a press conference at Casino Español de Cebu. As a senatorial candidate for the 2025 midterm elections, Singson laid out actionable plans aimed at addressing public transportation challenges and financial inclusivity while reiterating his dedication to public service.

In front of Cebuano media, Singson expressed his commitment to deliver on his promises. "Pag sinabi ko, ginagawa ko," he assured. Contrasting himself with other candidates, he emphasized, "Kung ang ibang senatoriables nangako, ako po ang gumagawa na. Ginagawa ko na, itutuloy ko lang."

Transforming Public Transportation with Affordable E-Jeepneys

Singson unveiled plans to support the government’s Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) modernization program by providing cost-effective electric jeepneys for drivers. He has found with a foreign manufacturer that offer EV units at significantly reduced prices. While the vehicles typically cost  ₱3 million, Singson intends to make them available for only  ₱1.2 million.

"The prototypes have arrived, and all the machinery is ready in Lipa, Batangas. By January, we’ll begin mass production," Singson shared, showing swift action.

Singson emphasized the importance of involving local government units (LGUs) and transport cooperatives in ensuring the project’s success. He explained that the program requires collaborative management, whether by mayors, LGUs, or transport cooperatives.

Pioneering Financial Inclusivity for Filipinos

To address the financial challenges faced by millions of Filipinos, Singson plans to propose a legislative measure to provide a unified card that functions as a bank account and a debit or credit card. With over 77% of Filipinos unbanked and 95% lacking debit or credit cards, the initiative aims to ensure every Filipino aged 18 and above gains access to financial services.Singson expressed confidence in achieving this goal with the help of his daughter, Congresswoman Richelle Singson-Michael.
He stated how the law could potentially revolutionize how Filipinos access banking, ensuring inclusivity and ease.

Solo Campaign with a Commitment to Public Service

Running as an independent candidate, Singson emphasized his willingness to collaborate across political lines to prioritize the country’s welfare. A seasoned public servant, he previously served as Narvacan’s mayor (2019-2022), implementing community-centered projects and reforms.
On October 7, 2024, Singson formally filed his certificate of candidacy at the Manila Hotel Garden City, signaling his readiness to bring his vision to the national stage.

Engaging Cebu’s Leaders

During his Cebu visit, Singson also met with the Association of Barangay Captains, led by Franklyn Ong, to address pressing local issues, including Cebu’s power supply concerns.

With over 3 million registered voters as of September 2024, Cebu represents a significant portion of the electorate. Singson’s visit underscores his commitment to understanding regional challenges and tailoring solutions to meet diverse needs.

"Para sa tao, kahit malugi ako, basta panalo ang Pilipino, okay sa akin," Singson stated, reaffirming his dedication to the Filipino people.
